Philosophy Statement

We are a community of children, parents and teachers committed to supporting one another in raising competent and caring children who are confident problem solvers and joyful learners. We believe that children are curious, capable and rich with potential. We are committed to ensure that children build authentic relationships within a natural environment. We are influenced by the social constructivist practice put in place by theorists, Piaget, Vygotsky, Malaguzzi, Erikson, Dewey and Gardner. We continue to focus on the practices of The Outdoor Classroom Project by being intentional about all of our learning environments and by providing rich materials that extend their play. We also value the principles of the Reggio School philosophy from Reggio Emilia, Italy.

We believe that children are curious, capable and rich with potential. We are committed to ensure that children build authentic relationships within a natural environment.

Additional Info

St. Paul’s Preschool has been a leader of innovative practices since 1971. We are a half day preschool for children ages 2 through 6 years of age. Our children’s garden as well as our Outdoor Classroom makes our program unique as it provides interactive play areas along with a working laboratory that focuses on life cycles; stewardship; with an emphasis on preservation and respect for nature.

St. Paul’s strives to offer opportunities (workshops and guest speakers) to provide continuing education in regards to the value and benefits of nature and child development to our families and other professionals. Our school is also an observation and practicum site for surrounding college students.
