Philosophy Statement

St. Margaret’s Early Childhood Development Center is committed to providing quality care based on our knowledge of current research and best practices. Our early childhood program engages the youngest learners to develop socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively through developmentally appropriate practices rich in social connections, language, literacy, math and other disciplinary skills and content. Over one hundred years of research has shown us the importance of children’s learning through play and exploration. Current research only solidifies the understanding that children learn best when they are actively and mentally engaged in their own learning.

Special Center | Site Features

  • Dedicated space for gardening, encouraging children to cultivate fruits and vegetables to share with the community. Our butterfly garden encourages students to observe the butterfly life cycle and investigate other insects on the Outdoor Classroom.
  • Recycling and composting areas to introduce children to the basic principles of taking responsibility for the waste they generate.
  • Small barnyard area to involve children with pet care, raising chickens and collecting eggs each day.
  • Motor development area for children to work on balance, core, speed, and stamina.
  • Our art studio opens up to the Outdoor Classroom. Children have access to clay, paint, and art materials to expand on their play.
  • Access to large hollow blocks, fairy gardens, dramatic play corner, magnetic boards, sand and water play all encourage children to investigate and collaborate in a safe and nurturing community.
